A Cute Christmas Bear!

And now for a completely new challenge blog for me! I used to collect the Forever Friends fridge magnets (still have them all over the fridge - there are loads!) and do quite like the stamps but have not yet taken the plunge and bought any (but have a feeling a splurge will be coming on soon!) but did get a set of the Christmas stickers on Creativity magazine recently. As I was not sure what to do with them, I put them in my Christmas box and forgot about them.

Then I found this challenge blog! This week it is a layout sketch (sorry no guide here as the one on the blog is very tiny!)

Again the photo quality is a bit dodgy (took it at the same time as the previous robot post). The backing papers are from Mad About Cards and they are from the Vintage Christmas collection download (I bought them last year and have used them a lot!) Red grosgrain ribbon is from my stash, and I tied it with a single bow as again I cut the ribbon too short and I was darned that it was going to work!

The image and sentiment stamp have been layered onto hammered cream card of which I have a number of off cuts which I can't bear (no pun intended!) to throw away so glad they have been of use here! The sentiment is a clear Studio G Christmas stamp - another 99p bargain!

I think I could well be back to play again with this challenge blog!

  • Backing papers: Vintage Christmas Collection (download) from Mad About Cards
  • Image: Forever Friends - free with recent issue of Creativity
  • Sentiment: Studio G Christmas clear stamp
  • Ribbon & gems: From my stash

It's The Robot Again!

Well, it seems that all my orders are completed and I've got chance to do a little catching up on some challenges! This one is 2 Sketches 4 u

Apologies for the terrible photo (it is slightly blurry - sorry!) but it looked even worse when I used the flash!

Both papers are from the Craft4Charity cd - Anice designed this set called Boys and Girls which I think is fab. And I've used the robot stamp again but this time in gold Stamp It Up ink. The stars and sentiment are from a clear Studio G 99p set which is such good value for money as there are 6 or 7 stamps that can be used in one little pack! The wire is from my stash.

This was a quick card to make which is good as we have another Birthday party to go to tomorrow and I've not yet sorted out a card, so this one will do nicely!

  • Backing paper: Boys and Girls collection by Funky Hand on the Craft4Charity cd
  • Stamps: Papermaina robot stamp and Studio G clear set for everything else
  • Wire: From my stash

Wizard of Oz

It's Funky Daze again! This is the first card I made with the papers and it was a custom order from a lovely virtual friend for one of her real friends (if you see what I mean!) Clare wanted a Birthday card with her friend dressed as a witch from The Wizard of Oz and wearing the ruby red slippers, and I could add anything else witchy that I wanted.

So, the yellow brick road was added (it has been chalked but doesn't really show up too well in the photos), some spiders and bats (yeah for Asda at Halloween!), silver cobwebs and a bubbling cauldron.
The dress has been layered so it is a bit more partyish although, again, it does not show on the photos, and it has been hand drawn and cut too.

The ruby red slippers have been cut from very glittery red card and again don't really show in the photo. The papers are Saturday Shopping (what else?!) from Funky Daze and I've edged the card with lovely velvet black ribbon which I found in my stash.

The sentiment tag has been cut from a Sizzix oval tag set, stamped in gold with a mini Studio G alphabet stamp and the edges have been dotted in gold

I think the card works quite well and I thought I'd try something different hence the double fold thing. I'm sure its called something much posher, but double fold thing it will just have to be until I can remember / find out!

  • Backing paper: Saturday Shopping from Funky Daze
  • Dies: Various Sizzix (person) including Quickutz (hat, broom and cauldron)
  • Sentiment: Studio G mini alphabet
  • Ribbon: From my stash
  • Bits and bobs: Mostly from Asda

PS Go and have a look at Clare's jewellery - it is stunning!

Fabulous Flowers - Blooming!

A new challenge for me is Dotties World. I've always had a look but not been able to enter as I didn't have any of the images, but as Guest Designer for November on Daring Card Makers, I got the opportunity to play with some images for my very first DCM challenge - how good is that?!

There are some fantastic images and I love them all - especially the ones which are pre coloured as it saves so much time.

Anyway, the challenge this week is:

I want you to make something (it doesn't have to be a card) and embellish it with flowers of some description. You can use flowers in your image or in the pattern on your paper but there must still be a flower(s) forming the main part of the embellishments, it could be silk or paper flowers, brads, buttons you get the idea right?

So here's what I came up with

I just love this Dottie image and thought that the 'blooming' would work well! It is a pre coloured image, the edges of the image and card have been shaped with a edge shaper punch (how I used to manage before I got it is beyond me!) All edges have been inked in blue. Backing paper is from the Son Day collection from the very new Funky Daze cd. The flowers are made with vellum which have been printed on with papers from the Son Day collection. I've used one of the flower dies from my Cuttlebug Baby Face alphabet die set and the layered flower I've simply pinched the petals together to give it a 3d effect.

The 'things' poking through the centres of the buttons are tiny shards of vellum as I thought the button holes looked a bit empty! I've hand written the sentiment.

  • Backing papers: Son Daze collection, Funky Daze
  • Image: Pre coloured from Dotties World
  • Dies: Cuttlebug Baby Face alphabet die to cut the flowers
  • Ribbon: Dovecraft green grosgrain
  • Buttons: From my stash

I'm Dreaming of a White (and Pink) Christmas!

My final submission as November Guest Designer for Daring Card Makers. I've really enjoyed my time and I'm available for any other GD spots out there!!

This week is 'I'm dreaming of a White (and Pink) Christmas':

I think I'm going for the more simple look these days and letting the paper patterns speak for themselves! All papers are from Funky Little Christmas download with the sentiment paper printed at A5 rather than the default A4 setting as I wanted more of the writing on it! Edges have been inked in black with a faux dot and dash stitch around the edge of the sentiment panel.
The snowflakes have been cut with an Ellison snowflake die and I've used the tissue interleaving from a photo album as I liked the crinkliness of it and the fact that it was already sort of embossed! Plus, I could not bear to throw it away - ever the hoarder! The pink panel it is on has been Swiss Dot embossed and the brad just holds it all together. Ribbon is a Dovecraft grosgrain special.
Funky Little Christmas is great if you want to move away from the traditional Christmas papers and go, well, Funky!!
  • Backing papers: Funky Little Christmas from Funky Hand
  • Dies: Ellison snowflake and Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing
  • Ribbon: Dovecraft
  • Brad: Papermania

Vellum Butterfly - Tag You're It!

I've not managed a Tag You're It challenge for a few weeks, so time to make amends! This week it is a sketch:I've been asked for a Birthday card with a butterfly, so I thought this would be perfect! Sorry about the fuzziness of the photo - my husband is in charge of photo taking during the week as daylight does not extend beyond my working hours. He's just got in a bit too close for the photo and not used the macro setting....

The butterfly has been cut from 3 shades of vellum - deep purple, lilac and clear. Silver seed beads have been added to the body and I've made the antenna from silver wire. The backing paper is Dovecraft Amethyst collection 6 x 6 which I really should use more often as it is really pretty paper! Sentiment is computer generated and has been layered with the same card as the tag (which I found in my card tub - I think it came from Lynsey as I don't remember buying it!) And the eyelet is from the generous Kath!
I will add the tag to a card as it would look a bit daft just as it is!
  • Backing paper: Dovecraft 6 x 6 Amethyst papers
  • Dies: Sizzix Butterfly
  • Other Bits: All from my stash

Anice, Funky Daze and Being 40

Here is the card I made for Anice for her Birthday. It was a special number, so special card was called for a special person! On the new cd - Funky Daze there are word books. Basically you print off the letters you want, put them together so that the letters show and bind together. I love the idea of word books but sort of did my own thing....
All the papers shown are from the Saturday Shopping collection, which, I must say, is my favourite, especially the swirly one. So I've used it liberally on this card!
I've used word art on word to create the numbers which I have cut by hand and embellished with gems and green ric rac ribbon. I found a fab pen in Asda which went well with the colour scheme, so decided to add it to the front of the card!

I nicked the photos of Anice from her blog! Handwritten sentiment and I've used my fancy scissors for the edging.

And Anice is a fan of Twitter, so I devoted a page to it! Made up some quotes which then had vellum overlaid to give a bit of depth. And it just so happened, there are 'tweet' papers on the CD - how apt!!

The back page has quite a bit 'going on'. There is Funky Towers, or at least how I think it looks (the photo doesn't show it too well as its cut from very shiny silver card) I made a tv with Anice 'appearing' on it. I gave Anice a very glittery and glam green dress and matching shoes! The tv opens to reveal Anice....

... holding a pair of scissors, cutting some paper and in the other hand holding a selection of Saturday Shopping papers.

And you can see what is on tv - either Funky Hand or Ideal World (as she's on there from time to time and will be again in the near future!) I made a little holder for the sign which is not in use (they stick with Velcro)

To keep the pages together, I've used eyelets and then threaded some funky black fibres through to tie them together.

Happy Birthday Anice and thank you for such wonderful papers!

Prior warning - you'll be seeing more of Saturday Shopping as I love it!! The papers that is, not actually shopping on a Saturday as its too busy....!

Robot!

I do like Tamara's Sketches - they are so simple and easy to work with! This week is the following, and because I'm getting good at these sketches, I decided to flip it round!!This is the robot stamp that I used on Samuel on Sunday! I used a black Stamp It Up water based ink pad as I wanted a bit of a mottled look to it which has worked out just how I wanted. The robot has been layered onto some silver wavy card and then onto some really shiny (but not mirror) silver card - hence the flash bounce!

The backing paper is Salt and Pepper download from Funky Hand, and yes, those are paperclips that I have used with a small star in the centre! I found a big tub of paperclips a few weeks ago, I've not got a clue what possessed me to buy so many, but waste not want not, so I decided I'd better try and use them!

The two stamps are fairly recent purchases, and I can't remember the maker, so will update this post when I eventually remember to look!

It's not often I make male cards, and I did have one to make for the end of the month, so this fits nicely!

  • Backing papers: Salt and Pepper download from Funky Hand
  • Stamps: I've had a look and they are both Papermania!
  • Paperclips: From a big tub from Tescos
  • Punch: Star from my box of stuff

Rock n Roll Elvis!

Friday Sketchers for this week is the following:

And I've been dying to use this image of George as Elvis along with the Funky Daze papers!

This image of George as Elvis is pre coloured which is great for quick cards! Both backing papers are from the new Funky Hand cd - Funky Daze and the colours just work really well together! The sentiment is a Studio G mini alphabet stamp and I've used Whispers Chestnut ink. The star is table confetti, which, in my opinion is far too good to be left on tables! Elvis / George has gold 3d paint for gems but you can't really see it in the picture!

  • Backing papers: Funky Daze from Funky Hand
  • Image: Pre coloured George from Dotties Downloads
  • Sentiment: Stamped with Whispers Chestnut ink and with a Studio G mini alphabet stamp set
  • Star: From my stash

Funky Daze is Launched & Happy Birthday Anice!

A big Happy Birthday to Anice the creator of Funky Hand and the Design Team boss! Hope you have a lovely day - the sun is shining and its a crisp morning - perfect!!

I can now reveal some examples that I made in preparation for the launch of Funky Daze - which coincides with Anice's Birthday. Funky Daze is the seventh cd in her collection (geddit - Daze - Days?!! Clever eh?!) The other cds are The Funky One, It's Funky Too, Yule Be Funky, Funky Seasons, V Funky, Now That's Funky and now Funky Daze. All with fantastic paper collections with co-ordinating alphabets, digital ribbons, sentiments and backing shapes. Funky Daze has scrapbook pages within the extras.

All the papers are from Funky Daze with added embellishments. This first one is Ruby Tuesday with added lime green ric rac ribbon and a slightly glittery gold star.

This one has used Son Day papers and I've used the backing tags from my Cuttlebug Baby Face alphabet set and have attached them with eyelets. The buttons and ribbon are from my stash. All edges have been lightly inked with Chestnut Whispers.

The Saturday Shopping collection is probably my most favourite and I've used it a few times already - more examples to be revealed later in the week in detail but you can get an idea if you look in the gallery for the cd on the Funky Hand website. The card below uses 3 of the papers plus some pale pink vellum and ribbon. The fastener is Queen & Co - I finally broke the seal on the little pot after looking at them for quite a while! The handbag is a Sizzix die and the handbag opens.

DIY Dad uses wire from my stash and some tiny screws and washers that I got when I went to Sams Scrap Store a while ago. The vellum has been Swiss Dot embossed and the paper is from Fun Daze. Letter stamps are Studio G mini wooden alphabet and I've used Whispers Chestnut ink.

And I can't remember which collection this one is from! The clear vellum has been Swiss Dot embossed and I've lightly rubbed Chestnut ink across the top for a bit of a distressed look. Ribbon from my stash along with the gems.

This was a really quick card to make and I think I'll be using this design again in the future!

So you see, I have been busy! I have more examples to show you but will do those on another day!
There are some fantastic card examples by the design team on the website - and I hope they inspire you!

Constructive Destruction

Yesterday was horrible weather wise. It had tried to snow overnight but left a sort of nasty wet slush everywhere. It kept raining, or rather hailstones on a frequent basis, the wind was howling. And it looked really cold. So we didn't venture out at all!

I had a special card to complete (more about that later in the week as its not her Birthday until tomorrow!) and I wanted to do some more examples for the new Funky Hand cd - Funky Daze, plus also to make a start on some challenges.

I did some stamping later in the afternoon and the boys wanted to join in. Samuel liked the robot I'd just stamped and he wanted a tattoo. So being the daft mother that I am, I obliged! (Fortunately, I'd only used a Stamp It Up water based pad and it all came off in the bath later!) Jacob wasn't too interested in the robot so he got a dog on each hand.

Samuel fell asleep on the settee and Jacob had mischief written all over his face so I asked him if he wanted to do some cutting. Gave him my fancy scissors and some scrap card and he was away!

He then wanted to stamp. Not with my precious things he's not! So I found some kiddie stamps that were hidden away. Thinking that there was a reason why the stamps were not particularly accessible, but not remembering why, I gave him the stamps.

The purple letter 'i' got used a lot.

And it didn't really come off in the bath either. That's why the stamps were hidden hehehe!!
The slogan on his t-shirt says 'Handsome is an understatement' - Primark's finest fashion and it washed well!

An Award

I've been given this lovely award from Kath who nominated all the Funky Hand Design Team - how nice is that?! So, why have I been sent this blog award, I hear you ask! Look no further:

This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming.
These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends.
They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement.
Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers!
Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.
Did someone say ribbon?!! So now I must pass it to 8 blogs and bear in mind the above......hmmmm. Let's see....
Lynsey - now real friends but started out as a virtual friendship (we are friends aren't we?!)
Jozza - fellow FH DT mate and we have met in real life and find that things are quite parallel at times...!!
Amanda - makes me wish I was more girlie!
Emma - for giving me blog fodder every Tuesday
Alex - my Camper Van Diva swop partner who makes me wish I could 'do' clay again...
Alex (Daisie) - for the fluffy flowers and tales of snot
Helen - Mrs Flower and more recently Mrs Snowflake!
Lisa - for making candles that I want to eat! Except the monkey fart ones...
So there you go! I know at least 8 people!!

Pink & Glittery Christening

My Mum asked me to make a Christening Card and I needed some inspiration! So the 2Sketches4U challenge was just what I needed! This week it is Laura's turn and here is her sketch:

A basic white square card with the same card embossed with my new D'vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder (it screamed 'buy me!' when I walked past it!) and I've lightly chalked over the top of it with pink chalk - you just can't see it too well on the photo but I have, honest! The bible is a die cut that I've had in my bottomless box for ages and I knew that it would come in handy one day! I've also used some liquid pearls (they also screamed at me to buy!) to highlight the bible as it looked a bit flat. This is attached to a transparent vellum panel with non-satin (there is probably a better word for it, but my brain is just not working!) pink ribbon from my stash threaded underneath.
And because I'd cut the ribbon a little too short, only a one looped bow could be made. The sentiment has been cut using my Baby Face Cuttlebug alphabet die set and from baby pink pearlescent card.
Nice and simple, but I like it!
  • Embossing: Cuttlebug D'vine Swirls
  • Dies: Cuttlebug Baby Face alphabet set
  • Ribbon: From my stash
  • Other Bits: Liquid pearls for highlighting and pink chalk on the embossing. Bible die cut from my stash

How Many??!!

Well, I've just noticed that I've gone past the 5,000 hits on this little blog - and I've only been counting since 5 August so I missed the ones since I started blogging in April.....

Anyway! I'll put together some blog candy over the weekend to celebrate this momentous occasion and will be back early next week with some stringent rules and regulations on how to enter!!

Cafe Chic & Coffee Colours!

The Daring Cardmakers Dare for this week is:

"cafe chic"
"I'm a bit of a cappuccino girl, so I want cards inspired by coffee!! Coffee colours, cup shaped cards, card layout inspired by a coffee jar label, using coffee beans on your card, coffee shop logos on your cards etc etc"

So, not wanting to do the whole card in browns and creams, I choose 'Coffee with Pals' collection from Now That's Funky - well, I just had to with a collection with that name! Each of the layers have been inked with chestnut Whispers pad. The ribbon is from my stash and the buttons were kindly donated by Lynsey - I asked if I could have a few buttons which looked like coffee beans and she brought me a jar full of brown buttons for me to sort through! Needless to say, she picked these three for me and I think they date from around the 1970's - aren't they fab?! Lynsey is the button queen!

  • Ribbon: From my stash
  • Buttons: Kindly donated by Lynsey!

Woof Woof!!

And another challenge I've managed this week! This one is the Stamp Something challenge which just happens to be a sketch:

Again, I'm needing to make Funky Hand Design Team Birthday cards, this time it's Allison's Birthday and she does like her dogs! So Allison, you ain't seen this one!!

The cute doggy stamp is one of my most recent purchases - a Dovecraft 99p special but as I don't have any canine stamps, I thought I'd better buy it! The sentiments have been stamped again with a Dovecraft 99p special but a little alphabet set this time.
The dog has been coloured with watercolour pencils and a bit of glitter on the collar (photo does not show it!) All the edges have been inked with chestnut Whispers ink and backing papers are from the Coffee with Pals collection from Funky Seasons.
The image and sentiments have been layered with complementary papers from the collection as I wanted to add a bit of depth.
And by luck, I learnt that Allison really likes the dotty paper from Funky Seasons - so that was a good guess!!
You will be seeing more of this paper - I'm determined that my New Years Resolution (yep, only the one!) will be to use all my papers instead of printing or buying more......
A very Happy Birthday Allison!!

  • Sentiments: Dovecraft mini wooden alphabet stamp

Almost There!

My little blog is fast approaching 5,000 hits since 5 August so I think a blog candy giveaway would be most appropriate!

So stay tuned!

Tamara Sketch 70 - Funky Flowers!

This is the first challenge I've managed for a few weeks and as soon as I saw it, I knew what I was going to do! There are a number of Funky Hand Design Team birthdays in November and as I cannot cram 30 hours into a 24 hour day, I've had to double up challenges and birthday cards. So this one is for Enfys - so you ain't seen it, right?!!

Tamara's Sketch this week is: And here is my card:

There actually is a panel behind the two flowers, I just cut it a bit too small! The flowers have been cut from vellum - the black and white is cut from backing paper from Funky Seasons from Funky Hand and has been alternately layered with clear vellum. The flowers are my own template and have been cut by hand, all secured with daisy brads. The main panel is also clear vellum which has been inked lightly around the edges with a very worn black ink pad!
The panel which is largely hidden under the flowers is silver vellum and has been embossed with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder. The ribbon is velvet and the sentiment is hand written.
Happy Birthday Enfys!
  • Backing paper: Vellum printed with the Black and White collection from Funky Seasons and layered with clear vellum
  • Embossing: Cuttlebug Swiss Dots
  • Ribbon: Velvet from my stash
  • Brads: Papermania daisies

Tell All Tuesday - Where Have You Been?!

The question for today's Tell All Tuesday is :
..Where In The World Have You Been?

Errrm, not really anywhere!

When I was 19 I went for a 4 night jaunt to Amsterdam as it was part of a college trip when I was studying Art & Design. I don't remember much of it except being really cold (it was February) and the coach breaking down and not having any heating.....

And finally we spent New Year in Paris when the Euro was introduced. We didn't really trust ourselves to manage the Metro so we walked everywhere! But we saw the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and a lot of bridges! I have got some pics somewhere but I can't find them, so I may update this post later as and when I find them...

Both these were pre children and since having a family we have spent our holiday in the UK with the last two years in Ilfracombe.

Halifax on a Saturday - Craft Fair!

Well, I survived yesterday although I am really aching! I stood for the whole of the fair as space behind the tables was very limited and its a good job Lynsey and I knew each other! Quite a successful day - we didn't get lost and arrived half an hour earlier than anticipated and we both did ok with sales. The amount of visitors was constant and it never let up until around 10 mins before the end.

We were entertained by the school band who were very good, even the Mayor and Mayoress of Halifax visited!

And here are some pics that Lynsey took of my stall:

This is the famous 'space saving dino' - made with It's Funky Too papers - I always get a lot of compliments about this card and manage to sell quite a few too!

Thank you to the organisers of the Craft Fair at Crossley Health School and also to Lynsey for her fab map reading skills and conversation! Oh, and to my cousin Claire for buying us all a cake - yum!!! And for helping with the packing up!
We shall be back for next year! Maybe school fairs are the garlic bread of the future?.....! (Hehehehe!)

Bad Blogger!

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last week or so, but I'm suffering quite badly from a chest infection and its side effects! I have got antibiotics but I think they are making me feel queasy most of the time to the point that I feel like I'm on a boat! I'm ok if I don't think about it, but my appetite is virtually nil although I have stopped being sick through coughing (my ribs and back really hurt!)

I was also in London yesterday due to the day job so that was an early start - both boys bundled in the car in their jim-jams, coats and blankets at 5:40am so I could be taken to the station at Blackburn as the connection back home from Preston to Blackburn meant a wait of over an hour (I could walk it quicker!) and I can't park at Preston due to building work on the train car park.... it really is a sorry tale!

And I'm making the final preparations for a Craft Fair on Saturday in Halifax. And I am still getting a steady flow of orders and commissions too!

I'm also attempting to make samples for Funky Hand as a new download Hearts & Flowers is due to be released very soon plus Anice has a new CD to be released. So I may have been quiet on the blogging front, but I have been creating - just I can't show you yet!

I hope to resolve the good / bad blogger balance next week and I think a revamp of the blog is due too. Oh, and I think I'm approaching 5,000 hits soon, so stay tuned for some blog candy!

Bird, Birds & More Birds!

The DCM dare this week has been set by Rein and is:

Bird, Birds and More Birds

I love birds so I'd like you all to make a card featuring birds this week
......a bird in the snow, a birds nest, a carrier pigeon, a white stork or birds in the sky, or...,or... even big bird!

I loved the Dottie images from last weeks challenge which as part of the DCM Design Team for November I got to play with. So how could I not resit using Dottie dressed up as a hen?! I printed three of the pre-coloured images (time has not been good for me this week - more about that in a later post), mounted them onto a Swiss Dots embossed tag with 3d foam pads and used some lovely red organza ribbon to finish it off. And the sentiment has been stamped with a Studio G mini wooden alphabet set with an added gem.

So go and have a look at what the rest of the DT came up with - I love Jozza's button flowers!

  • Images: Dottie & George downloads
  • Embossing: Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder
  • Sentiment: Studio G mini wooden alphabet stamp set
  • Ribbon: From my stash

Tell All Tuesday

And this week I've done it on the correct day!

The question on JB*JB's blog for this week is:

Were you named after anybody?

Nope! Although my Mum wanted to call me Lucy at first so I remained the Baby With No Name for around 10 days until she decided on Ruth.

I decided on the names for both my boys although Simon likes to think he picked Samuel's name (we watched the 51st State with Samuel L Jackson in when I was very close to producing the child and he liked the name Samuel) as I decided as soon as we knew it was a boy that it would be Samuel. And Jacob I picked too as I liked it.

Both boys have 2 middle names which use family names for those who have died. Bit morbid, but I liked the names anyway!

Featured on ....

... Crafting in Color!! Whooo-hooo! Have a look here to understand what I am going on about!

Thank you to Tizzalicious for the feature (and to Lynsey for offering my services!)
