Polkadoodle Challenge 36 - Sketch Recipe

It's Friday again so time for another Polkadoodle challenge! A sketch has been set this week with the stipulation of 3 brads, no fabric ribbon and the flap must be shaped. I've been very good and very naughty!

Very good as I've followed the sketch and the 'rules':
But very bad as I've used elements from the BRAND NEW cd which hasn't been released yet! I've gone for a Halloween theme - all the elements are from the cd - the haunted house is a pre-coloured digi stamp that I've inked with a very faded black stamp for a more spooky look.

The faux stitching has been created with a white gel pen, and I've added three silver snaps at the top of the flap. The spider is also a digi stamp from the cd and he is suspended on some strands of thread and I've added wobbly eyes to his face.

The pumpkin has been coloured with Promarkers along with the mummy (he is so cute!) and I've used my Sizzix Round A Bout alphabet die for the letters.

You're going to want this cd when its released - full to the brim with fab papers, digital elements and ideas!

Good luck with the challenge - you have until Sunday 19 September to enter!

  • All elements: Brand New CD from Polkadoodles - to be released
  • Snaps: W R Memory Keepers
  • Dies: Martha Stewart scallop punch, Sizzix Round A Bout alphabet die

Help! Mummy!!

I had been very good and not bought any new stash for quite some time. Until this week that is. And I blame Dottie's World Challenge blog for it. Oh yes I do! Their challenge this week is:

Halloween-ish

And I clicked on the link to their download shop and saw the Halloween stuff... and well, I just had to buy (but got some freebies too along the way!)
So, after a shaky start and not really knowing what I was going to make, I had a little eureka moment and went on a mission. Well, not me really, the husband did for some bandages.

And I made this!

I covered the card blank with black card and dabbed silver ink around the edges and across the card. I then embossed some torn squares and then inked them before adding to the card. The orange ribbon is from my stash as I thought the card needed a bit of colour.

I used the mummy image from the download, enlarged it and then cut it out and then added the bandages. It's attached to the card with a piece of acetate so it boings around. And in the top corner I've added my last fimo spider!

  • Embossing: Cuttlebug folder
  • Spider: Made with fimo by me
  • Everything else: My stash

Polkadoodle Challenge 16 - Spots & Stripes

It's Friday again and we are already upto week 16 on the Polkadoodles challenges! And for the duration of September, I am setting the challenges. Yes, Nikky has let me loose!

So, I set the Design Team a challenge of

Spots and Stripes

And they could use any of the Polkadoodle cd's or downloads to interpret the theme. Pop over to the challenge blog to see what the DT made!

I've used the Halloween download - purely because I liked the grungy feel to the papers and also because I had the brainwave of using spiders for the spots!

I printed the papers off at A5 size so I retained the text and roughly tore the strips, inked the edges and added them to the front of the card. I've added a doodled line around the edge of the card and the sentiment as well as the usual inking.

I made the spiders from fimo - really easy to make - a squashed ball for the body and then I rolled some thin strips to make legs and then added them to the top of the body by squishing the middle down. Then after I'd baked them in the oven (closest I ever get to cooking!) I added the wobbly eyes.

I hope you can join in with my challenge - click here for more details. You have until 12noon on Sunday 13 September to enter - so what are you waiting for?!

For the remainder of September, the challenges that I am setting will be accompanied by a little tutorial on how I made my item, so watch out for those! You may see a little helper that I acquired during the making of one of the tutorials!

  • All paperbased elements: Halloween download from Polkadoodles
  • Spiders: Made by me from Fimo

DMC Challenge - Piping Hot & Introducing Sidney Spider

Ha! This challenge nearly caught me out! I thought that it would be easy peasy as I have literally hundreds of pipe cleaners (don't know why - I think they are breeding in my cupboard) but when it came to put them into something resembling a card, I just couldn't!

I think the glass of wine must have helped because I then remembered this little fella I made last year and had left languishing at the bottom of a tub, homeless.

So here is Sidney Spider!

The Daring Cardmakers Challenge is:

to use PIPE CLEANERS!!
Any shape, colour or form - put them on a card! I know it can be difficult to incorporate Pipe Cleaners on cards (sticking them down is one obstacle!) but they can be put to lots of interesting uses too! So go on - it wouldn't be a challenge site if it was easy would it?

Although the pictures don't show it too well, the edges of the card and letters are edged with orange glitter glue.

And this is the first ever Halloween card I have made!

  • Backing papers: Black shimmery card from my stash and also orange card from the same place
  • Embellishments: Made by me from black pom pom, wobbly eyes and pipe cleaners
  • Dies: Sizzix Round-a-Bout alphabet set
