Simply Create Challenge 50 - Distressing

Welcome to another Simply Create challenge! This fortnight we are sponsored by Bonibleaux Designs - otherwise known as Dude Time Doodles. Pop over to the challenge blog to find out what you could win!

The theme this fortnight is:

Distressing

I've used papers from Alison Sloan - these are actually part of a Christmas digital scrapbooking kit called Comfort and Joy but I really like the papers and they are so versatile too! I've distressed the edges with scissors and added some string from the kitchen drawer. You can buy her digital kits here.

I've used Doghouse Doug as my image from Bonibleaux Designs and he's been coloured with Promarkers. I thought he fitted the theme quite well as he does look distressed!

Hope you can join in with us! I'd like to enter my card into the following challenges:

Charisma Cardz: Distressing
Sassy Studios: Distressing
Corrosive Challenge: Earth Tones
Dream Valley Challenges: Distressing

  • Image: Doghouse Doug, coloured with Promarkers
  • Papers: Alison Sloan, Comfort and Joy Kit
  • Everything else: My stash

Fetch A Sketch Challenge 4

Welcome to our fourth Fetch A Sketch challenge! Jenny is this fortnight's hostess with a rather wonderful sketch for you to work with. The winner from challenge three will be announced next Monday so please keep an eye out to see you if you were the lucky entrant! But remember, you have to be in it to win it!

We have the very generous and downright quirky Dude Time Doodles sponsoring challenge 4 and the prize is a $10 gift certificate to the store - Bonibleaux Designs. Always perfect for the pesky men in your life for whom a card is always difficult to construct!

And the sketch that we have for you to follow is:

Remember, you can flip it, rotate it, add your sentiment and extra embellishments where ever you like, but as long as we can recognise the sketch then we are happy bunnies! You can also use what ever products you like.

Jenny and I have had a play with some of the Dude Time Doodles images (I'm also on the Design Team too) and I've used one of my favourite images - Henry Hero who has been coloured with Promarkers.

All the papers and elements on the card are from the Not For Girls cd from Polkadoodle and I just love this collection of papers! It's been made for a special little boy to give to his Uncle who will be celebrating his birthday soon!

All the elements and Henry have been added with foam pads for extra dimension and its quite a large card - just slightly smaller than A5. Some of the elements have got a few foam pads behind them so it is quite a dimensional card!

The closing date is 12noon on Sunday 28 August and for more details and how to enter, please pop over to the challenge blog. Good luck!

I'd like to enter my card into the following challenges:

Birthday Sundaes: Birthday Wording (second disc from right)
Allsorts: Red
Crafty Calendar: August - Hot Colours
Craft Your Days Away: Birthday
Ellephantastic: August - Layers

  • Image: Henry Hero, coloured with Promarkers
  • All papers and elements: Not For Girls cd from Polkadoodles

Dude Time Doodles - February New Release & Blog Hop!

It's the third Wednesday of the month so it is time for the Dude Time Doodles Blog Hop and a preview of the new releases for February!

For my card, I've used a Kraft card blank with an off-cut of corrugated card that I found in my stash. The garden twine adds that bit of male-ness to it! And the brads are Papermania.

The image is Harold Hammock and I've added my own computer generated sentiment. The image has been coloured with Promarkers and is great for those male cards or to send as a get well soon card too!

If you've arrived at my blog from Cleota then you are on the right track, although the hop does not have a start or end point, and if you get distracted you can always start from the beginning! One member of the Design Team will be chosen as the Mystery Hostess and a lucky commentator from that blog will win a Dude Time Doodles image! So, you never know - that Mystery Hostess could be me - you have to be in it to win it, so leave me a comment!!

You now need to hop over to Hetty!

This is the last time Nancy will be taking part with the Dudettes as she is stepping down from the team - we wish her well - and from me - thanks for all your support! We are welcoming Chrissy D as our Guest Designer - hello!!

Good luck!

Going Bowling

A good and easy sketch this time over on Cards for Men:
I've used a great image from Dude Time Doodles - Larry Lane, who has been coloured with Promarkers. The three little bowling pins I've had for ages; I'm a bit of a hoarder and don't like to throw anything away as it could come in useful one day! These are from a cracker and I knew they would be perfect for a bowling card one day!

The papers are from Funky Hand - Girls and Boys and again I'm using up my scraps! A bit of inking and faux stitching and the card is complete! You'll have to excuse the bit of glue that you can see under one of the pins - Jacob was much aggrieved that I'd used them and moved it!

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 5 - Sketch

It's time for a Dude Time Doodles challenge! The format of the challenges has changed slightly and every one will now commence on a Wednesday. So:

First Wednesday = Sketch Challenge
Second Wednesday = Guest Designer spot up for grabs
Third Wednesday = Inspiration Challenge
Fourth Wednesday = New Releases and Blog Hop

The new store is now up and running with your purchases being available to download immediately after payment - go and have a look!

As this is the first Wednesday of the month, it is the sketch challenge:

You can twist it, rotate it and do what you like as long as the sketch is still recognisable and you have made a male themed card - easy peasy! The challenge runs until 11 January - good luck!

This challenge is sponsored by Raindrop Echo Designs who is offering three great prizes to the winners!

I've used left over papers (see how good I am being!) from a previous project and they are the Big Dots Mini download from Pink Petticoat (I don't think this download is available anymore as I could not find it on the website) plus some very shiny silver card from my stash.

The image is Jose Hosed and he's not looking too good! I've coloured him with Promarkers and added some string with knots in as that is just the way he is feeling at the moment! Large brad from my stash.

I've added some dots around the edge of the image and card plus some inking. Hope you can join in with the challenge - don't forget to follow the sketch and make a male themed card! Good luck!

Come back next Wednesday when there is a chance to be a Guest Designer on Dude Time Doodles - you get a free image to use to make a creation and then the Guest Designer is picked from the entries!

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 4 - Photo Inspiration

It's time for another Dude Time Doodles challenge and as its the 20th it is an inspiration challenge:

I've chosen to use Armchair Arnie (and we all know someone just like him!) who I've coloured with Promarkers and by pure fluke, managed to match up the colour scheme with the inspiration photo! The papers are from my stash and have not got a clue where they came from but have a sneaky feeling that they were freebie downloads from a magazine. I've handwritten the sentiment.

I've corner rounded, inked and added a brad from my stash that I've had for simply yonks and fitted in perfectly!

So, fancy entering?! Great, you have until 4 January to enter, follow the inspiration photo and you must make a male themed project with any digis you may have. Link it up with the challenge blog and the Design Team can stop by and see your work! Good luck!

PS Sorry if you were looking for this earlier - my mistake - set the post to schedule for 2011...!!

  • Sentiment: Handwritten

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 3 - Sketch

It's time for a Dude Time Doodles challenge! It's the 5th of the month so that means a sketch challenge, and here it is! You know how I like simple sketches - well, this I think will be one that I return to time and time again!

I've used the Santi Beaches image, coloured with Promarkers and I've added a computer generated sentiment (could not resist!) This is just how I imagine Santa on 26 December!

The backing papers are Papermania Naughty but Nice 6x6 collection along with some silver and red card from my stash and the snowflakes are pearlescent table confetti.

We hope you want to join in with the challenge - you can use any image you like as long as it is a male themed one and you follow the sketch. Deadline is 19 December with the winners being announced on the challenge blog.

Good luck!

The winner of the Blog Hop will get all the new December releases from BDD worth $30!

I've used the Airplane image, coloured with Promarkers, and have flipped it around so that it is flying straight off the page! The sentiment I've created on the computer. All the papers and brads are from my stash along with some inking and corner rounding.

So, back to the Blog Hop! If you've arrived here from Cleota then you are on the right track - you now need to hop over to

Turkey Wishes

A quick card from me that actually took nearly 2 weeks to put together. Don't know why - probably everything else just got in the way! It's for the Cards For Men challenge which this fortnight is:

Animals

Ok, I'm pushing the theme a little here, but the turkey is an animal. Just a cooked one! I've used Turkey Lurkey from BoniBleaux Designs, coloured him with Promarkers and layered it onto some random offcuts of card I found in my stash.

The sentiment is part of a freebie set that I downloaded from GTC's Crafty Corner (I'd been after some of these tickets for ages so thank you!) The papers are Papermania 6x6 Home for Christmas stack that I must have bought but forgot about (oops!) as I found them in my stash!

And the string of mini lights? I've had these for absolutely ages and bought them years go and hardly ever used them! Just that the card needed something a bit butch to add to it, and although fairy lights are not that butch, I think they work well!

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 2 - Photo Inspiration

I can't believe its come round to the 20th of the month so quickly! And because it is the 20th its time for a Dude Time Doodles Photo Inspiration challenge! So take inspiration from this montage - use the colours or the images on your creation and link up with the Dude Time Doodles blog before 3 December to be in with a chance of winning or placing in the top three!

I've used the colours as inspiration as Tom Tom the Turkey just wanted to be used! I was going to add something along the lines of 'Bernard will be calling soon....' (for US readers Bernard Matthews is a HUGE turkey farmer! And not to be confused by the famous Northern comedian Bernard Manning - you can google that yourself! But be warned not for those easily offended!)

I digress...!

I've used a sheet of brown paper that came with some photo printing paper as my backing (I've no Kraft card but this is good enough!), doodled a faux stitched line around the edge and inked lightly. I say lightly as the ink pad has seen better days and even coca cola has limited resuscitation effects these days!

Image has been coloured with Promarkers and layered onto some brown offcut of card. Glitzy gold snowflake started life as a parcel sticker but is way too good for that, so its on my card! Spotty red backing paper is from Patti Picklicious cd by Kirsty Wiseman and adds just the right amount of colour I think!

So fancy entering?! Yes, of course you do! The challenge is open until 3 December and have a look on the challenge blog for more details on how to enter! Good luck!

  • Printed backing paper: Patti Picklicious by Kirsty Wiseman
  • Brown backing: Random paper from some packaging

Mr Fantastic!

The Papertake Weekly challenge is asking for:

A Penny For The Guy

So, a male card really! I've used a BBDesigns image - Hero Henry which I've coloured with Promarkers plus added a bit of glitter glue to his very fine set of teeth! The sentiment is computer generated and I've layered that and the image onto offcuts of card. And, if you look closely, I've had to cleverly work with the offcuts that I did have as I didn't have enough!

The backing paper is from Polkadoodles Not For Girls cd and is one of the best sheets of backing paper I've ever printed for a male card! A great superguy backing paper! I've added a bit of inking and doodling around the edges, some string and a button and that is it! And it's not a Christmas card! Actually, its to go in the Valentine card box! See how organised I sound?!

Boxing Hero

Another easy and useful sketch from A Crafty Little Place this week:
With the added twist of it being a sketch for the guys! And what better image to use than this one of Knock Out Kurt from BBDesigns! I've coloured him with Promarkers and I've handwritten the sentiment (again too lazy to fire up the printer and make it look reasonable!)

I've not got a clue where the backing paper came from as I'd already added it to the card blank. I must have printed it myself a long time ago as it is on photo paper and I only print photos on this type of paper now! I've used left over card to add as part of the sketch and the button and string is from my stash.

A pretty quick card to make whilst watching a marathon Milkshake Fireman Sam morning before swimming lessons......!

  • Backing paper: Not got a clue
  • Image: KO Kurt from BBDesigns, coloured with Promarkers
  • Sentiment: Handwritten

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 1 - Sketch

Welcome to our first ever Dude Time Doodles Challenge! There will be two challenges a month - each on the 5th and 20th with the first one of each month being a sketch and the second an inspiration challenge, so there should be something for everyone! We have sponsors and also top Dudette badges, giveaways and all manner of tempting things each time!

Although I've only been on the Design Team just over a week I'm having a blast! The cards the ladies have made for the men in their life have fantastic sentiments that I'm sure will leave you giggling and wanting more!

So, onto the sketch:
You can flip it, rotate it, do what you will as long as it is still recognisable. You don't have to use BBD images, but if you do we will giggle even more! However it must be a masculine card - one for a dude of any age and the funnier the better in our book! The top three winners along with a Top Blog winner will be announced on the challenge blog on the 12 November.

For our very first challenge, we are sponsored by Glitterbabe Greetings and Stef is offering a random drawn winner 4 digis of their choice from her store! Wow!

In following the sketch, I've used Time Out Tim, coloured with Promarkers with some inking around the edges with my trusty faded ink pads that I simply cannot bear to throw away! The sentiment is a Studio G 99p acrylic set and everything else is from my stash. The blue backing paper has been printed from Polkadoodles Not For Girls cd (how very apt!) that I'd had in my box of bits for a while.

And check back on the challenge blog on the 10 November as there will be a special Guest Designer monthly spot challenge. There will be a freebie and a chance to win a GD spot for a month on Dude Time Doodles!

So, what are you waiting for?! Enter!!!

  • Image: BBD Designs - Time Out Tim, coloured with Promarkers
  • Sentiment: Studio G acrylic stamp

Rootin' Tootin' Birthday!

Samuel is off to a Birthday party for one of his school friends at weekend, and I could not resist making the card with this image from Bonibleaux Designs which I get to work with as I am part of the Dude Time Doodles Design Team!

I've used Cowpoke Cal, coloured him with Promarkers and added the star image badge and sentiment from the sentiments page.

I'm entering the card in the Cards for Men Challenge which is:

Anything Goes!

Papers are from Papermania 6x6 For Him paper stack. I've used my Nesties to frame the image, added string, card from my stash, a bit of inking and doodling and the card is complete! The boys thought the card was fab, lets hope the Birthday boy does too!
