Monster Fun

Halloween is approaching and what better way to celebrate than with the good Dr Digi Halloween Sentiments which have eerily turned into cupcake toppers! Now I would show you how they are supposed to look however this house has no cupcakes and I didn't think they would look right stabbed through some Jaffa Cakes.......

Buy the Sentiment Sheet along with Special Brew and Witchy Wilma and save a £1 - enough to buy some treats!

All coloured with Promarkers and I found some titchy wobbly eyes in my stash along with the dripping goo.

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

All Crafts Challenge: Anything Goes But No Cards
Artistic Inspirations: Anything Goes / Halloween
Dream Valley Challenges: Halloween
Sentimental Sundays: Too Cute To Spook

Dare You Enter?!

There is a definate chill in the air and now the clocks have gone back an hour, its almost permanently dark; it is getting closer to the witching hour!

So with that in mind I've made a door hanger with the current Dr Digi freebie Crossbones. Not sure which of the boys' bedroom doors to hang it on as they are both as bad as each other....

I've coloured the digi with Promarkers, cut it out and added it to the black card background. I've then randomly cut into the black background then used some silver ink I found around the edges. The letters are cut with my Sizzix Girls are Weird dies.

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

2 Creative Chicks: Halloween
Digi Galore: Halloween
Ladybug Crafts: Halloween and Use Die Cuts
Craft Your Passions: Halloween
Love To Create: Halloween
Whoopsi Daisy: Halloween

Dude Time Doodles Challenge - Halloween

I'll keep this post short and sweet as I am in agony sitting down.  My right hip is really playing me up - that's what happens when I stand for an hour in the cold on a Saturday morning watching Jacob play football.  And I should have moved around a little. A few months ago it was my left hip from standing still in the cold for 2 hours waiting for the Olympic torch to pass through Blackburn town centre.

The Dude Time Doodles challenge this week is:

Halloween

And I've made a bookmark with Grim Grisham who has been coloured with Promarkers and then added to a tombstone shaped offcut of black card.  I've drawn the cracks on with a white gel pen.

Don't forget to check out the other Design Team samples and good luck with the challenge!

And Jacob's team lost 10-5.

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

Heck of a Challenge:  Spooktacular
LEJ Designs:  Gothic / Dark
Papertake Weekly:  Fright Night
Eureka Stamps:  Halloween

Polkadoodle Challenge 41 - Halloween

Welcome to another Polkadoodles challenge!  It's a great theme this week:

Halloween

And I've made these little sweet pouches.  Papers are from the Polly Witchydoodles download and I've simply cut out two oblong strips from one sheet of A4 card (printed on both sides) and then used my X Cut star die to cut out the front.

I've tied the top with string and added the cut out star as a tag along with one of the images from Sundae of Seasons cd.  Pretty quick and easy to make!  I've added jelly fangs in the cello bag inside the pouch.  And yes, they have already been eaten!

Good luck with the challenge - for more details pop over to the challenge blog!

I'd like to enter the following challenges:

Simply Create Too Challenge 24 - Pumpkins

It's time for another Simply Create Too challenge and the theme this fortnight is:

The papers are from Carina Gardner - Haunted collection and I've used black card from my stash to layer plus some twine and some bat confetti.

Good luck with the challenge and to see the rest of the teams samples and also how to enter, just go to Simply Create Too!

Polkadoodle Challenge 41 - Spooooky!

It's Friday so that can only mean another Polkadoodle challenge! This week I am hosting the challenge which is to create

Something Spoooooky!

This can be anything you want - the more spookier the better and the Design Team love to see creations other than cards - so get creative! The deadline for the challenge is Sunday 24 October at 12noon GMT and please remember our 10 challenge rule!

I've made two bookmarks this week from coffin shaped card! Both characters are from the new cd Sundae of Seasons and from the Autumn collection. Both are pre-coloured (great if you are in a rush!)

I've added some drippy goo punches which were sent to me by Lis - thank you for coming to my rescue!! To finish off the bookmarks, I've doodled a white line with a gel pen around the edges.

Pretty quick and easy to make and with other characters available on the cd, you could make a set!

Good luck in entering!

Dare You Enter?!

Sometimes when I see a challenge I know exactly what I am going to make, and for the Moving Along With The Times challenge this was no exception!

This weeks challenge is:

Anything But A Card

As I had the brand new Halloween download from Funky Hand - Spooky Dookie to play with, I knew I wanted to make a door hanger. I've used a chipboard template for the actual shape (which I drew round) and printed directly onto a sheet of 270gsm white card which I glued back to back.

I've inked the edges and added here and there some black card candy - not sure if you can quite see it in the photo. The ransom style letters are also from the download and I've inked them too.

Both the tombstone and mummy are Sizzix die cuts - I've added the letters on the tombstone with liquid pearls and the little mummy is wrapped with bandage. Really quick and easy to do - the longest part is waiting for it all to dry!

Spooky Dookie is a fab download and it can be used not only for Halloween as there are some non Halloween type sheets too!

  • Backing papers: Spooky Dookie download from Funky Hand
  • Dies: Sizzix Sizzlets tombstone and Sizzix body die
  • Letters: Spooky Dookie download
  • Everything else: My stash

Spooky Purple!!

A great sketch from Card Patterns this week:

Although I've flipped the semi circles - not intentional, I just glued them wrong and didn't realise until it was too late!

All the coloured papers are from the new Funky Hand download - Spooky Dookie which was released over the weekend. A great set of papers including alphas and a topper page which proves that Halloween papers are not just for one night of the year, but can be used for all year around!

I've used black card from my stash for the layering and the spooky ghosties are Sizzix die cuts which I've inked a little and added wobbly eyes.

  • All printed papers: Spooky Dookie from Funky Hand
  • Black card: My stash
  • Dies: Sizzix ghosts

Polkadoodle Challenge 36 - Sketch Recipe

It's Friday again so time for another Polkadoodle challenge! A sketch has been set this week with the stipulation of 3 brads, no fabric ribbon and the flap must be shaped. I've been very good and very naughty!

Very good as I've followed the sketch and the 'rules':
But very bad as I've used elements from the BRAND NEW cd which hasn't been released yet! I've gone for a Halloween theme - all the elements are from the cd - the haunted house is a pre-coloured digi stamp that I've inked with a very faded black stamp for a more spooky look.

The faux stitching has been created with a white gel pen, and I've added three silver snaps at the top of the flap. The spider is also a digi stamp from the cd and he is suspended on some strands of thread and I've added wobbly eyes to his face.

The pumpkin has been coloured with Promarkers along with the mummy (he is so cute!) and I've used my Sizzix Round A Bout alphabet die for the letters.

You're going to want this cd when its released - full to the brim with fab papers, digital elements and ideas!

Good luck with the challenge - you have until Sunday 19 September to enter!

  • All elements: Brand New CD from Polkadoodles - to be released
  • Snaps: W R Memory Keepers
  • Dies: Martha Stewart scallop punch, Sizzix Round A Bout alphabet die

Halloween Has Left The Building!

So Halloween is over for another year (and if Mr Blogger is playing nicely, this should be published on the right day!)

The current challenge on Your Special Delivery is

Halloween

And to use the freebie Frannie. This is their second challenge and I was really pleased to be awarded the second prize place on their very first challenge!! So thank you for picking my card!

Anyway, onto my take on the challenge! I've coloured the freebie image with watercolour pencils and added a little bit of glitter glue for the streak in her hair.

The papers are freebie downloads from The Creative Cottage (I really do like this collection but they are only available for a month!) and the gnarled twisted tree is from my stash (Jacob picked it out for my card, which surprised and delighted me at the same time!) The bats are table confetti (and they are metallic purple!) and from my stash.

So I now really do need to make a start on my Christmas cards.....

Bubbling Brewing Cauldron

I found a new (to me) challenge blog whilst hopping around last week. The Incy Wincy challenge currently is:

Halloween

I've used freebie downloaded digi paper from Vicki - A Work In Progress (although I know that this particular collection, Grape Crush is no longer available) and the bubbling brewing cauldron image is a freebie digi image from Robin Willis.

I've not done much except liberally ink the edges with my faded ink pad and my good one, and then doodled a wobbly line twice in black in and once in white gel pen. The ribbon is from my stash and I've coloured the bubbles with two different shades of green glitter glue. It looks a bit flat but the card is really quite punch in real life - I blame the kitchen lights and for being up at before 5am (the clocks have gone back an hour in the UK) with one of the boys.........

Polkadoodle Challenge 23 - Halloween

It's Friday again so its another Polkadoodle Challenge!

This week, Nikky has asked us to use the Halloween download and to get creating!

This had to be a quick one this week for me due to the lurgy earlier in the week. I've used Frankenstein Jack - layered onto the backing paper. I've liberally inked the edges with my good black ink pad and then added the sentiment.

The bats are table confetti from my stash.

Told you it was a quick and simple one this week! You have until 12noon on Sunday 1 November to enter the challenge - good luck!
  • All paperbased elements: Halloween download
  • Bats: From my stash

Help! Mummy!!

I had been very good and not bought any new stash for quite some time. Until this week that is. And I blame Dottie's World Challenge blog for it. Oh yes I do! Their challenge this week is:

Halloween-ish

And I clicked on the link to their download shop and saw the Halloween stuff... and well, I just had to buy (but got some freebies too along the way!)
So, after a shaky start and not really knowing what I was going to make, I had a little eureka moment and went on a mission. Well, not me really, the husband did for some bandages.

And I made this!

I covered the card blank with black card and dabbed silver ink around the edges and across the card. I then embossed some torn squares and then inked them before adding to the card. The orange ribbon is from my stash as I thought the card needed a bit of colour.

I used the mummy image from the download, enlarged it and then cut it out and then added the bandages. It's attached to the card with a piece of acetate so it boings around. And in the top corner I've added my last fimo spider!

Get Funky! Challenge 3 - Halloween

It's the first of October so it means another Get Funky! Challenge! Thank you to all who entered my Two Little Boys Challenge in September - there were some great entries! To find out who I picked as the winner go to Get Funky!

This month it is Allison's turn to set the challenge and she loves Halloween, so the theme this month is:

Halloween

Rules are simple - simply use one Funky Hand product on your creation to be in with a chance of winning a very generous £20 gift voucher to spend on Funky Hand products! You have the whole of October to enter!

The Design Team have made some wonderfully spooky creations - pop over to Get Funky to have a look!

For my sample, I've made a gift box. The template was a free download from Papercraft Inspirations (this is the small box and it prints out over two sheets of A4). I've used papers from It's Funky Too - and I've printed a different pattern on both sides.

The outside of the box has been decorated with various die cuts - Sizzix ghosts, Round-a-Bout alphabet set and a Sizzlit tombstone. Edges have been inked in either silver or black ink for a bit more spookiness.

I've attached the ghosts to the box with strips of acetate so they jump out!

The ribbon is from my stash and just the perfect shade of orange too! The little black bats are confetti, and I'm sure I bought it from the pound shop a few years ago. Or probably Tescos in the post Halloween sale!

And inside the box -

I've filled it with spooky pumpkins and ghoulish eyes - a net of each £1 from, yes, the pound shop!! They make the box quite heavy, so I think I'm going to have to eat a few.....!!
  • Papers: It's Funky Too
  • Dies: Sizzlit - Tombstone, Sizzix Yellow die - Ghosts, Sizzix alphabet - Round-a-Bout
  • Everything else: From my stash

Good luck with the October challenge and remember to link the actual post of your blog in your comment on Get Funky - this makes it a lot easier for the Design Team to visit you and to leave you a comment. Can't wait to see what you create!

Polkadoodle Challenge 19 - Digi Colouring

It's Friday again, so it's another Polkadoodle Challenge! This is my last week of setting the Design Team challenges and I hope you've enjoyed them as much as me!

This week, I challenged the team to:

Colour a Digital Image

Now, they could use any image of Polly or Jack, and I choose the Halloween download as I really like the papers that come with it! There are two tutorials to accompany these two cards that I made - the Polly card uses watercolour pencils, and Jack has been coloured with good old felt tips!

A little bit of inking here and there and some tearing of paper and it all looks more spooky! The fimo spiders are left over from a previous challenge and I think I should make some more for next year!

For the card with Frankenstein Jack, I've used felt tips and a white gel pen to give highlights. More doodling on this card and inking and it's finished!

Hope you're able to join in with this challenge - it's open until Sunday 4 October 12noon - go to the challenge post to enter your creation!
Good luck!

Tutorial - Digi Colouring with Watercolour Pencils

And here is the second tutorial to accompany this weeks challenge!

My equipment is very basic! These are the watercolour pencils (24) that I use and also the brush felt tips (30). The watercolour pencils can be used as ordinary pencils, but they really come to life when a tiny bit of water is added.

For this tutorial I am colouring Polly Polkadoodle from the Halloween download. I've started with a light and pale layer of colour.

I've now added more definition to Polly's hat by dipping the nib of my pencil into water - I can now spread the colour more easily and also choose which areas I want to leave as highlights.

To build up more intense and darker colours, I've used not only the blues but also greens and purples. I would not use the black at this point as to go too dark too quickly may spoil the overall effect.

The same technique is then applied to her cape. Colour is built up slowly with greens, browns, blues and reds.

Other smaller areas are now coloured.

And only now (below) have I added a tiny bit of black here and there to provide a darker contrast to the colour. However, it is really the colour and it's depth that I want to portray which I feel provides a richer and deeper colour than using black as this can be a very flat tone.

And here are the two images together that I coloured for these tutorials. Same technique applied to both images but different results due to the medium used.

And this is the card I made with the Polly Polkadoodle image. Papers are also from the Halloween download and the little fimo spider is made by me!

Hope you've enjoyed the tutorials and that you will be able to join in with the challenge this week!
