Retro Christmas

In an attempt to use up some of the scraps I already have lying around (well, actually they are in clear folders labelled with the collection / download name...!!) I've made this card for the Jingle Belles challenge which is:

Use Three Different Patterned Papers

You can just see the third paper inside the aperture - on the left and right. I've used papers from Funky Hand - All I Want For Xmas download including the sentiment.

I've inked edges and added a faux running stitch line around the red spotty card. The aperture has been cut with a Nesties die. The red suede ribbon came from a fancy gift tag that I've recycled - would seem rude not to as it was too lovely to throw away!

The card also qualifies for the following challenges:

Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge
: Use Ribbon
Card Makin' Mama's: Use Your Scraps
Christmas Stampin' All Year Long: Die Cuts
Stamp Something: Use a Sentiment

  • Papers and Sentiment: All I Want For Christmas Download from Funky Hand
  • Dies: Spellbinder Nestabilities
  • Suede Ribbon: My stash

First Attempt at Distressing!

I've never tried distressing the edges of paper before and decided to give it a go on this, and I'm quite pleased with the results! The Christmas Challenge this week asks for:

Blue and White

I've used tiny bits of other colours (couldn't not do as they were already on the paper!) but primarily white / silver and turquoise / blue. The paper is from Dovecraft Let It Snow 4.5 x 6.5 paper stack and its been layered onto a silver card blank. Not sure if you can see, but I've doodled a fine white line around the edge of the card blank with a white gel pen.

I've also added a bit of stitching across the top of the paper for a bit more distressing. The gems are from my stash - the large silver one is from the Poundshop along with the wooden glittered snowflake. The ribbon is from Stampin' Up and I've added extra 'legs' to the bow.

This also fits the following challenges:

Paper Romance: Distressing
Christmas Card Challenges: Snowflakes
Paper Sundaes: Vintage or Shabby Chic

  • Paper: Dovecraft Let It Snow
  • Large gem and Snowflake: Poundshop
  • Ribbon: Stampin' Up
  • Everything else: My stash

Pretty Holly

I don't know why I don't stamp this wonderful image from Charmed Cards and Crafts more often as it is so lovely to colour! I've coloured her with Promarkers plus some stickles.

The paper is from Polkadoodles - Sundae of Seasons cd and I've used two of my Nesties dies to create the frame that she is sat on. A bit of faux stitching around the edges plus I've added some thin green satin ribbon and tied it in a bow over the top of the frame.

This fits the following challenges:

Sparkles Christmas Challenge: Holly or Ivy
Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge: Use Ribbon
Allsorts: Things With Wings
Crafty Purple Frog Challenge: Things of Beauty

  • Image: Charmed Cards and Crafts, coloured with Promarkers and Stickles
  • Papers: Sundae of Seasons from Polkadoodles
  • Dies: Spellbinder Nestabilities
  • Everything else: My stash

All Green

We're back from our holidays (photos to follow!) and I'm just about in time for Dustin Pikes Playground Challenge which is:

Shades of Green

At the last moment I decided to pack my Promarkers and some images to colour - just in case - and I'm glad I did as I coloured this image so it ended up being a quick make card!

All papers with exception to the one the image and sentiment are layered on are from Funky Hand - Funky Daze cd (which is a bargain at £7.99!) the other papers are from the Rainbow Polkadot download.

The sentiment stamp is a freebie that I got ages ago. The little hammer brad is from Woodware which I've had for some time but not yet used. Some faux stitching, inking around the edges and the card is complete!

It also fits the following challenges:

2 Sisters: Anything Goes
Craft Your Days Away: Father's Day / Special Day
Easy Craft Projects: For Dad
Charisma Cardz: For a Male
Do You Stack Up Challenge: Animals

  • Image: Dustin Pike, coloured with Promarkers
  • Papers: Funky Daze and Rainbow Polkadots from Funky Hand
  • Brad: Woodware
  • Sentiment: Freebie stamp

Polkadoodle Challenge 21 - Male Theme & Blog Hop!

Welcome to another Polkadoodle challenge! This week the challenge is

To make something for Fathers Day or Male Related

We are also celebrating our third year Anniversary so we have a hop for you too this week with blog candy at every stop, generously donated by Nikky - the owner and creator of everything Polkadoodle!

During the blog hop there is a hidden message - so you have to hop from blog to blog to find out what it is and what to do!

For my Fathers Day creation, I've used papers from the Fathers Day download from the Polkadoodles website. The letters from the same download were used as a template over a sheet of thick acetate which I then ran through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and dotted a black border with a Sharpies marker. The brads are We R Memory Keepers. Really quick and easy to make!

Onto the blog hop! You really need to follow the correct order otherwise the message will be muddled! If you've arrived at me from COLETTE then you are on the right track! Please leave me a comment before you leave and my word is:

DOWNLOAD

Put this with all the words you have so far and now hop over to SASKIA who will reveal another word! If you get lost, just start again at the Polkadoodle blog!

All the comments left on this post before the closing date will be entered into a draw to win the Double Sprinkles of Kraft cd as shown in the picture below! Generously donated by Nikky! If you don't leave a comment then no chance of winning!

Good luck with the hop and challenge! Both will end at 12noon on Sunday 5 June - and please remember our rules. UPDATE - BLOG HOP WILL END ON SUNDAY 12 JUNE AT 12noon due to issues with leaving comments

Get Funky Challenge - Recipe

Welcome to my offering for this months Get Funky Challenge! The recipe challenge has been set by the very talented Kathy and it is:

5 Flowers
3 Papers
2 Buttons
1 Ribbon
And any seasoning (sparkles, gems etc)

I've made a Wedding Word book for my cousin Jane who gets married later this year (I'm trying to be organised as I have a few to make from various family members!) I've used the I Do word book - cut out the relevant pages and added them together.

I've spelt out Mr and Mrs added the flowers with pearl brad centres plus dotted some liquid pearls here and there. Instead of adding an 'and' sign or word, I've used a faux silver buckle heart with ribbon fed though - the same ribbon as I've tied the pages together. Quite a complicated tie and I used a fair amount of ribbon too so the reverse also looks fancy.

Hope you can join in with the challenge this month - rules are really easy! Follow the theme, use at least one Funky Hand product - there is a freebie on the website in the download section that you can snag and use for each monthly challenge if you don't yet own any Funky Hand products - and link up on the challenge site!

Closing date is 14 June - Good luck!

Simply Create Challenge 44 - Special Day

Welcome to another Simply Create Challenge! This time the theme is:

Special Day

So you can interpret that how you wish - the challenge ends Thursday 2 June and for more details please visit the challenge site where you can also see the inspiration from the rest of the Design Team!

I've made two cards for the challenge as they were so quick and easy to do! I've used a ready to print horseshoe template from The Clip Art Fairy (bargain for 50p!) I've printed the background directly onto the cardstock (prints as a 15cm square card) then I layered up two of the horseshoe images with foam pads for each card.

I've then added, to each card, a hat pin made by myself, ribbons, flowers and half pearls.

This is such a lovely template to use and I'd made both the cards in an hour - the glue took longer to dry though!

Good luck with the challenge!

Polkadoodle Challenge 20 - Anything But A Card

Welcome to another Polkadoodle challenge! This week Fliss is our hostess and she has set the challenge of:

Anything But A Card

I had great fun making this milk cartoon gift box - I used the template from Paper Boutique Vol 1 at A4 size (uses two sheets of A4) and printed it onto papers from A Double Sprinkle of Kraft.

Both flowers have been made by using various sized Nesties, wetting the circles, scrunching them up then waiting for them to dry (best to leave overnight if you are impatient like me!) then layering them up with a brad in the centre.

The sentiment is a pre-coloured version from the Double Sprinkles of Kraft cd and I've added one of the border strip ribbons to the bottom and top of the box. A lot of the papers on the cd are kraft based so you get the lovely brown vintage feel throughout!

This is actually really quick and easy to make - all the instrictions for the milk carton are printed on the paper so you can see what you are doing as you go along!

Good luck with the challenge - it is open until Sunday 29 May at 12noon GMT.

My project also qualifies for the following challenges:

Fab 'n' Funky Challenge - Making my own blooms
Paper Romance Challenge - Anything but a card
Shelly's Images Challenge - Show us what you've got
Crafts And Me Challenges - Anything goes with the option of Kraft
Crafty Creations - Something with a flower, patterned paper and ribbon (mine is digital!)

Dude Time Doodles Challenge 14 - Colour Inspiration

Welcome to the third Wednesday in the month and to the Dude Time Doodles photo inspiration challenge!

Don't forget to follow the inspiration board below - colours or theme or however it inspires you - and to make your card for a dude! We also want to see some humour but keep it clean!!

I've gone for Hero Henry (has to be one of my favourite designs!) who has been coloured with Promarkers and I've added a little sparkle to his wide smile! The backing paper was an inspired glance towards the wallpaper department whilst mooching around B&Q over one of the recent Bank Holidays. As you can take samples, I did just that and came away with enough to replicate this card 7 more times!

Henry has been added with foam pads so he stands a little proud of his background. And the sentiment is from Raindrop Echo Designs - I've glittered the edges and layered it onto some shiny red card from my stash. Added black card candy to the corners, inked the edges and the card is complete!

Good luck with the challenge! For more details visit the challenge blog!

Birthday Mermaid

It's been a while since I last joined in with a Pattie's Creation challenge, but when I saw the theme for the current one, I could not resist! It is:

Something for a Child - With Their Name

I've already made two cards for Casey and they were both a little bit on the pink side, so had to go for a very different colour scheme! She has swimming lessons so I thought the Mermaid image from Pattie's Creations was perfect. She's been coloured with Promarkers and I've added glitter glue to the bubbles and also the sea shell. I've inked the edges of the image with faded blue and green ink plus some chestnut brown and a bit of black.

The patterned papers and strip are from DCWV Retro 6x6 stack and the others are oddments from my stash. I've used the computer for the sentiment and to finish it off, I've dotted a line around the edge of the image and sentiment with liquid pearls.

So I am now organised! Her present is bought and it all just needs wrapping and writing!

  • Papers: DCWV Retro 6x6 Stack

Santa

A nice and easy and quick card to make for the current Jingle Belles Rock challenge which this week asks for:

Jolly Old St Nicholas

I've used a shaped card template from Polkadoodle Paper Boutique Vol 2 - Creative Christmas cd, I've used the A5 version, cut all the elements out and then layered them up with foam pads.

The card blank is made with one of the backing papers from the same cd. I've glittered parts of Santa so he is really sparkly!

I made quite a few of these cards for last Christmas and they sold like the proverbial hot cakes - here's hoping that will be repeated in the lead up to this Christmas!

More Poundshop Wonders!

It might seem that I'm having a bit of a Christmas card drive at the moment, well, yes I am although I'll probably tire of it and then have another flourish in a month or so! But whilst the going is good, here are my five cards for the Christmas Cards All Year Around monthly challenge which this month is a sketch:

All the papers are from a Mad About Cards traditional Christmas download that I've had for a few years. All the chipboard stickers are from the Poundshop and are all from the same pack - so I made all these cards plus one left over for £1!

The gems are also from the Poundshop.

I've used two sets of Nesties to cut shapes behind the chipboard embellishments, with all the ribbons and raffia from my stash.

Looks like my target is getting closer and closer now!!

Another Christmas Card!

I found a lovely new challenge whilst blog hopping the other day, and as I'm on a mission to stock up on my Christmas cards (and to reach the magical 100 target!) I liked the look of the sketch on Cards & Things Challenges and decided to make a Christmas card.

I've used a silver card blank plus gems from the Poundshop. The silver snowflake originally was a Christmas decoration which I bought as a pack of 9 in the January sales along with the fluffy silver parcel string. The silver organza ribbon is from my stash.

The paper has been punched with a Martha Stewart punch and I've inked the edges. It is Dovecraft Let It Snow 4.5 x 6.5 stack and I only had to trim a little off to make it fit the card.

Apologies for the rather dark photo but at least you see all the sparkle!

Polkadoodle Challenge 19 - Menu Recipe!

Welcome to another Polkadoodle challenge - slightly messed up due to Blogger problems over the last 36 hours, but hey! We're still here!

This week Colette has set the challenge and it is a menu recipe!

Colour: Pink or Turquoise
Image: Fairy or Butterfly
Embellishment 1: Ribbon or Lace
Embellishment 2: Pearls or Gems
So you have to pick your colour, the image and one each from the embellishment list.

I've gone for clean and simple and used four butterflies printed from Sundae of Seasons onto vellum, layered up with foam pads. I've added some gems to the body for extra sparkle.

The ribbon is Tempting Turquoise from Stampin' Up and I've used a Martha Stewart punch for the detail.

And you can see all the layers here - I did curl the vellum a little before I added it to the card but as I'd used a ribbed vellum it was a bit more resistant!

Good luck with the challenge - it is open until Sunday 22 May at 12noon GMT and please remember our rules!

  • Butterfly: Sundae of Seasons cd
  • Ribbon: Stampin' Up
  • Punches: Martha Stewart

Dragon Racing

The challenge this week on Dustin Pike's Doodle Dragon studios is to use the freebie image posted a few weeks ago. How lovely and easy!!

So here is Dudley and his power wheels! I've coloured him with Promarkers and I've used some thick white card (same as the card stock) to print on and the colours slightly bleed a little, which, I do actually quite like!

The papers are from Polkadoodles Sundae of Seasons cd and I've done a bit of doodling around the edges. The buttons are from my stash and I no matter how hard I tried I could not thread the string through the holes of the green buttons, so the bow is glued on - cheating, I know!

Dustin has a special digi freebie set on offer to raise a smile for a very good cause - click here for the post link. I've sent my card off to Dustin, and with a bit of luck it will get there pretty soon!

Peas On Earth

I'm on a mission to make Christmas cards despite the sunshine (well, in between the thundery showers anyway!) Plus I've added a ticker countdown at the top of my blog as I'm attempting to create 100 Christmas cards before November.... And November 2011 too!

I found a new challenge blog (new to me) which is Christmas Stampin' and the challenge this week is:

Make Us Laugh

This Whimsie Doodles image always makes me giggle, so perfect for the challenge! I've coloured it with Promarkers plus stickles on the fluffy bits on the hats. I've used some red and silver card from my stash for layering plus a left over bit of Spookie Dookie download from Funky Hand.

I've used a Nestie to draw around to make the shape, plus I've dotted a fine black line around the edge of the image. Card candy and ribbon from my stash.

So that is one down, 80 to go.....!

Recycled Christmas

The Bah Humbug challenge is to:

Recycle

And so I have!

Card blank was a donation and came as a much larger sheet
The embellishment was a tree decoration
The bells were from another tree decoration
The brown paper was a Primark carrier bag

The backing paper is from the Comfort and Joy download from Alison Sloan, the red raffia is from my stash plus the card candy too. A nice and quick card to make! Need to knock one off my countdown now!

  • Backing paper: Alison Sloan
  • Everything else: My stash or recycled from something else

In The Pink

A nice and easy card to make and all papers are from my scrap box! I've coloured the Sassy Cheryl image with Promarkers plus glossy accents on the wand and stickles on the wings. It fits the Sassy Cheryl challenge which is:

Pink

All the papers are from various collections from Funky Hand - the spotty one is from Rainbow Polkadots. The fluffy stuff is actually fancy yarn which has been sat in my ribbon box for ages and it fitted perfectly with this - and was still lying around from the last card I blogged!

The sentiment is computer generated and I've dotted around the edge of the card with a silver gel pen and done the same around the image but with a pink gel pen.

Fluffy Pink

I do like the Sweet Sketch Wednesday sketches and do my best to join in each week and I knew that I'd be making this card for a friend but just didn't know what image to use. I have a large box full of pre printed images that I've not coloured (I have one with coloured images in too - just ready to be used!) and I found this Pink Petticoat image in it.

I've used one of my Nesties dies to cut it and then inked the edges with my trusty pink and blue (rather well used and gnarly inkpads!) plus dotted a pink gel pen line around the edges.

The papers are a mix of different digital brands and I found them in my box of oddments that I am desperately trying to use up as its becoming a little unmanageable! The pink fluffy stuff is actually yarn that I've had for ages (got it in black and white too!) and I knew I'd be able to use it one day!More gel pen dotting around the edges of the card and layers (blue pen this time) plus some dabs of liquid pearls and the card is complete. And actually a few days before I need to send it! To say I am a card maker, I am terrible for remembering Birthdays and sending cards!

As this is the 100th Sweet Sketch, there is a blog hop, so I'm off to take part in that!

  • Papers: Various

Spotty Windmills

Some more windmills! Once I start making them it is difficult to stop! This time these are for the Ladybug Crafts Challenge which is:

Going Dotty

I've used kebab sticks from Tesco and papers from Funky Hand - Rainbow Polkadots download. I've printed both the positive and negative dots - one on each side.

I've used a bit of glitter glue in the corners of each sail and a velvet brad through the centre. To keep the reverse of the windmill pretty, I've tied a bow with some pink ribbon, plus it helps to attach the windmill to the kebab stick!

More From The Poundshop!

The chipboard embellishment that I have used on this card came in a pack of 6 from the Poundshop a few Christmas's ago - I have a few packs of these red and green vintage themed ones plus some blue ones and some more modern types too. I sort of went a bit mad and bought almost all that I could see as its generally a case of if I don't buy then, its gone for next time!

The chipboard is really good quality and layered up too and a bargain at 6 for a £1! The Jingle Belles challenge this week is

Vintage

Which this card fits. I've used a Kraft card blank plus leftover papers that I've had lying around for a while that were bought from Mad About Cards ages ago and are part of a vintage download.

I've used two sizes of Nesties to cut out the shapes then inked the edges. The organza ribbon is from my stash along with the little jingle bell (see what I did there?!) A bit of doodling with a fine black pen (which I think is on its last legs and it took me ages to find one that I actually liked!)

Simply Create Challenge 43 - Mum's Sayings

Welcome to another Simply Create challenge! This fortnight, the challenge is:

Mum's / Mom's Sayings

As Mothers Day has passed in the UK, I've decided to make a small set of note cards for everyday use and I've used three sentiments from Raindrop Echo Designs. I always used to struggle with adding sentiments to cards and it would just be the standard, Happy Birthday's, but now I've discovered Raindrop Echo Designs, the sky is the limit!

And I am liking the clean look of these, I could just make some more!! I've used two of my Nesties dies for the shapes, some grosgrain ribbon from my stash which matched the papers perfectly (Craft The Year Away from Funky Hand) plus I'm using up some of the leftovers in my overflowing box. I've added a pin of my own design - there are some little smiley faces on the tiny stars - you just can't see them in the photo!

Hope you can join in with the challenge - for more details, please visit the challenge blog!

Tiddly Inks Treasure Hunt Blog Candy Winner!

Apologies for not announcing this sooner - the week has sort of slipped past me rather quickly! The winner of the blog candy that I offered on my post as part of the Tiddly Inks Treasure Hunt is:

The random child (Samuel) picked number 26.

Congratulations! Please email me before 6 June 2011 and I shall get your winnings in the post!

Polkadoodle Challenge 18 - Easel Card

Welcome to another Polkadoodle challenge! I have a feeling that for the challenge this week the Design Team are going to be rather busy commenting on all the entries! The challenge is:

An Easel Card

I've used papers and elements from A Double Sprinkle of Kraft - all the papers, the butterflies and also the sentiment topper are from the cd. I've printed the butterflies at A5 setting, cut them out and then layered them into twos and added some wire for their antennae (I cut the paper ones off!)

The flowers have been made by printing on both sides of thin card, cutting out different sized circles then wetting them, scrunching up, laying out to dry and then layering them up and securing with a brad through the centre. I also scrunched them up before gluing to the card. The sentiment topper is also from the cd.

Good luck with the challenge - it is open until Sunday 15 May at 12noon GMT, and please remember our rules!
